If You leave out the film plane curve, and the image is projected on a 6cmX12cm flat stip of film, will the image turn out the same or even usable? What are the consequences of leave the curved film plane out?

  The image will still be very usable. I would simply encourage you to take the risks and experiment, there are no wrong questions, save for the ones that never get asked.
  
  If you have the time and inclination, make several variations on the camera and see how far you can take the design. David provided the plans as a starting point, where you take it is a up to your curiosity and creativity.
