A question

Here's the question. Should I put google ads back on the site? I need to defray the cost of running the site, it costs 50.00 per month now, which is pretty reasonable, but it'd be nice to offset that cost a little.

Anyhow, I thought I'd pose the question to all of you and see what you thought.

Whither Canada?

Okay, first up my family has been in Canada since the late 1700's. My forefathers surveyed a great deal of northern Quebec and I've lived here my entire life.

It's late February, winter, such as it is is still here and I somehow can't stop laughing at the apparently thin-skinned milquetoast media as it falls over backwards, foaming at the mouth over a mere 5 to 10 cm of blowing snow.

Oh Canada, really now! Where is your spine? Has the witless and sallow media turned you all into knockkneed halfwits?

Just asking.

Work, work, work

That's it really, I've been working at my day job and moving the galleries has slowed to a crawl, I'm so sorry it isn't going faster.

I'm hoping for a less busy week next week and to be able to sit, uninterrupted and import a large number of the galleries. Time will tell.

Thank you, all of you for being patient and supportive while the new gallery takes shape.

Thanks need to go to the folks at SquareSpace for making this incredible content management system. I'm a longtime web/software developer and I must sat I'm truly impressed. Cudos!

The Work Continues

Yes indeed... still over 500 artists to import and over 6000 images... (more or less) and counting... part of me wants to work out a way to make this go faster, but then it'd probably take just as long as doing it one artist at a time anyhow... so, onward.

It's interesting to see images in the gallery that I've not looked at in detail in a while. I do see some issues with certain images appearing to have lost data. This could well be a left over from an earlier incarnation of the site where I had a dynamic image parsing routine handling the rendering of images to screen. It looks like "digital rot" in that some areas of the images appear as small squares as though that data were missing.

If you happen to be the artist and are looking at your images and if, perchance one or more has this 'rot' then please join as a member and re-upload, or upload new images for all to see.

Alright, back to the fields of the digital...

Started adjusting the display properties of the galleries

Yes indeed, more progress. I hope you keep coming back for more. I'm doing several things at once here. I'm re-uploading the galleries and that in and of itself is a lot of work. At the same time, more or less, I'm making changes to the display properties of the galleries themselves. I'm still thinking about the best means to make the galleries into a rewarding viewing experience.

There are so many artists and so much to look at. There are a number of people who have only one or two images, but there are also artists in the galleries who have dozens of images and somehow I'd like to make it into a rewarding viewing and exploration experience for the user.

Anyhow, if you have suggestions then please comment and let me know.
